1. Who are the people that should complete the survey?

Any man or woman who is, or has been, married to a cross-cultural spouse.

2. Are you targeting a specific 'segment' of respondents?

No. There was a wide-scale email sent to nearly 10,000 people, some of whom are members of discussion forums at RussianWomenDiscussion.com and Planet-Love.com, however, many of the addresses came from other sources including voluntary registrants to the GoodWife.com Newsletter. Moreover, there was a wide-spread Press Release issued that does not target any segment of the population. In fact, we welcome any man or woman who is now, or ever has been, married to a cross-cultural spouse to complete the survey. If Men's Rights organizations or Women's Advocacy groups wish to take the initiative to disseminate the survey, we welcome that - please do so. Return to Top
3. Your Press Release mentioned the survey is designed "To put to rest many of the nagging and unanswered questions raised by various feminist organizations, and others with ignorant or malicious agendas." It sounds like you are expecting the results to support a particular position. Is that true?

It is natural to have a hypothesis about what the survey results will 'say.' At the same time, through painstaking efforts in the development of survey questions, because the survey is available to anyone who wishes to provide input, and with our plans to have the survey results independently certified, the focus has been and will be to create a valid and objective survey whose results will serve to prove or disprove the hypotheses of the originators. Let the cards fall where they may.

4. Who will benefit from the results of the survey when it is completed?

Information drawn from reliable facts and data will benefit many, including anyone who might be interested in a cross-cultural relationship. If results point out significant differences about cross-cultural marriage and divorce than similar surveys focusing on domestic couples, it may influence decisions by individuals about their choices. Results are likely to be of interest to the large number of couples who are already in, or were in, a cross-cultural relationship. We hope that regulators and authorities who may be considering legislation of individuals and organizations related to cross-cultural marriage will be interested. Certainly Men's Rights and Women's Advocacy groups will be interested in the results - depending on their perspectives and interpretation of the survey results. Return to Top
5. The survey states that it is anonymous, yet the opening page asks for "First Name" and "Last Name". How can that be anonymous?

The survey is, indeed, anonymous. A commercial script is used for data collection. You can find the script developer at this website -- http://www.limesurvey.org/. We are using standard templates, and that template does ask for First Name and Last Name, but if a respondent does not complete those fields, they are still able to complete the survey. Return to Top
6. What about the email address? Why must people supply their email address?

The email address is used in the first step of insuring that survey results are valid. That is, when a person registers, a 'token' is created by the software and an email containing that token is sent to the email of the registrant. This is to insure that no more than one person per email may complete the survey, and as stated earlier, is simply the first step to insure we prevent abuse of the survey. Anyone wishing to read more about the token issued by the software may find the information here -- http://docs.limesurvey.org/tiki-index.php?page=Tokens

7. What about someone creating multiple emails and that one person completing the survey repeatedly?

Sure, there are numerous ways that a person might try to 'game' the software. We hope that most people want to see legitimate results and will not behave in such a manner, but experience has shown we will need to review results closely to isolate any abuse. To accomplish this, there are additional checks that will be made to the data once it has been collected, and any suspicious survey results will be discarded. It would be unwise to describe the specific checks to be made as those with nefarious intent may gain information that would help them accomplish their goals. In the end, it will be up to the independent certification agency to determine the process to be used and the validity of the ensuing results. Return to Top
8. What will happen to the emails provided as part of registering for the survey? Will they be sold or used in any way?

Email information provided in registering for the survey is considered personal information. Personal information is not sold or rented to other organizations and email information will only be used for collection of data for the Mail Order Bride Survey. Return to Top
9. Is there any other way to complete the survey except online?

10. You mention an "independent certification agency" - is there one engaged right now to provide this certification?

No, not yet. It is expected to take several months to gather a sufficient number of survey responses, hence, there is no rush to select the organization/entity that will ultimately certify the results.

11. What about development of the survey questions and process? Your Press Release mentioned the survey "involved professional researchers from three universities - Depaul, Georgia State University, and Notre Dame, as well as review by several notable immigration attorneys and others active in the field of international dating and marriage." Can you name those who played a role in the survey development?

When the final report is published, all those who played a part in the survey, and wish to be included, will be mentioned or referenced.
